INCOMING 6th Graders and Parents For 2012-2013
This is the time of year for you to consider enrolling in the beginning band program. Every
elementary student has been tested and fitted for an instrument. Experts from Meyer Music came
to Ionia to help fit each student with the instrument that will best suite them. Of course this is just
a suggestion. You as the parent or guardian should talk to your student regarding what they are
most interested in.
Band is a fun and rewarding experience, particularly if the student is willing to work hard to learn
his/her instrument. We are proud to offer the opportunity of joining the Ionia Instrumental Music
Department. You may want to visit Band FAQ for more basic questions about the program.
If you wish to participate in the Ionia Music Department and will be an incoming 6th grade student
for 12-13, please do the following:
- Call or email Tom Brill at the Middle School to register for class. He will make sure your
child is placed in the class. You may also ask for a counselor, they will also make sure your
child is placed in the class. 527-0040 x 559
- You will need to get an instrument. There are a few ways of doing this:
- Go to Meyer Music and rent an instrument. Representatives from Meyer Music
visit the school each week and take care of all rental repairs free of charge. THIS
IS THE MOST POPULAR ROUTE FOR MOST STUDENTS AND PARENTS.
- There are other music stores that you may feel comfortable with-However they do
not visit us.
- You or someone you know may have an instrument to use. This is fine, just make
sure the instrument is in proper working order.
- Online---PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, BE CAREFUL. This includes flutes,
clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones. If you purchase one of these
instruments, you may have issues. It may be better to look for a quality used
instrument first. You can find these everywhere. Please look for names like
Yamaha, Selmer, Conn, Holton, Armstrong. If you have any questions about
instruments please contact Tom Brill.
